Activity
This clinic is focused on follow up of patients with advanced chronic renal failure who will need to start dialysis. Patients will receive instructions for a unique diet that meets the restrictions of malfunctioning kidneys. The aim of the diet is to preserve the present situation, and to postpone, as much as possible, the beginning of dialysis. Besides diet, patients will receive instructions for achieving normal levels of blood pressure, blood glucose, blood lipids, and to watch their body weight.
During the follow up sessions, patients will receive explanations about the procedure of dialysis, types of dialysis and the recommended method of dialysis according to their situation.
Patients appropriate for hemodialysis shall be called for a procedure of shunt installation; those who choose, or are appropriate for peritoneal dialysis shall be called for insertion of a Tenckhoff catheter into the peritoneal cavity. Peritoneal dialysis is usually done at home, while hemodialysis requires connection to a hemodialysis machine in the dialysis unit.
